With the Planar 6 RS Edition, Rega presents a refined special edition that makes high-end technology from its top-of-the-line models accessible in a living-room-friendly, classic, and timeless design. The ultra-lightweight, highly rigid Tancast 8 chassis, the precise RB880 tonearm, and the pre-mounted Nd9 moving magnet cartridge combine to form an audiophile foundation for music lovers who appreciate uncompromising performance in elegant understatement.

The combination of a hand-tuned 24V synchronous motor, CNC twin pulley, and two EBLT reference belts ensures maximum smoothness, excellent speed stability, and significantly enhanced control. The external Neo MK2 power supply completes the package with finely adjustable speed control and optimized anti-vibration electronics.

Construction & Materiality

The Planar 6 RS Edition adopts key design features of the Planar 8, but remains true to its classic shape including the dust cover.

At its heart is the Tancast 8 foam core chassis, laminated with high-strength HPL and a brushed aluminum surface. The ultra-lightweight yet extremely rigid sandwich structure forms a low-resonance platform, ideal for the precise mounting of high-quality components.

The Double-Brace technology stiffens the critical areas between the tonearm base and the main bearing and prevents unwanted energy absorption – a significant contribution to the impressive clarity and definition in the sound image.

RB880 Precision Tonearm

The Rega RB880 is normally found in the Planar 8 – in the RS Edition it comes standard. Its vertical aluminum bearing housing, a newly designed sleeve, and the high-precision stainless steel bearing shaft guarantee maximum rigidity with minimal friction.

The intelligently designed tonearm tube optimally distributes mass and reduces resonances to a minimum. The tonearm comes perfectly aligned from the factory with the Nd9 Reference Moving Magnet cartridge, a multi-award-winning MM system that masterfully reproduces the finest musical details. The low-capacitance Rega phono cable completes the setup.

Nd9 Reference MM – finest detail resolution

The Nd9 is entirely handcrafted and utilizes a nude fine-line diamond stylus on a boron cantilever. Thanks to its extremely small radii, the stylus follows even the slightest changes in the groove. The newly developed generator geometry improves coil symmetry, ensuring exceptionally precise channel balance and high dynamic range.

Drive & Motor

Precise synchronous operation is ensured by a hand-selected 24V synchronous motor with specially tuned electronics.

The motor drives a CNC-machined twin-drive pulley and two Rega Reference EBLT belts – a combination that significantly reduces speed fluctuations and ensures exceptional stability. The aluminum sub-platter further enhances smoothness.

Two-layer float glass turntable

The visually and technically impressive Opti-White float glass plate consists of two layers of high-precision manufactured glass. This material combination enables optimal mass distribution, which further improves rotational precision.

Neo MK2 power supply

The external Neo MK2 offers:
