With the TD 404 DD, Thorens continues the design and sound philosophy of its direct-drive icons – inspired by the legendary Thorens TD 124 DD, but technically and aesthetically state-of-the-art. Direct drive with authority

The powerful direct-drive motor ensures precise speed stability, immediate dynamics, and smooth operation. Impulses are translated with force, while subtle dynamics are preserved – a drive concept that ideally combines control and musicality.

TP 160 tonearm – Precision in detail

The newly developed TP 160 tonearm with knife-edge bearing impresses with minimal friction and excellent tracking ability. It follows the groove with the highest precision and opens up a spacious, finely structured soundstage with clear spatial imaging and natural tonality.

A highlight is the redesigned electronic tonearm lift (e-Lift) with auto-stop function. It not only increases ease of use but also reliably protects the stylus and vinyl from unnecessary wear – a well-thought-out solution for demanding everyday use.

Resonance control at the highest level

The innovative platter design combines modern aesthetics with sophisticated resonance damping. In conjunction with the solid sandwich plinth and a 5 mm thick aluminum top plate, this creates a particularly low-resonance foundation for record playback.

An integrated stroboscope with pitch control allows for precise fine-tuning of the speed – ideal for listeners with a trained ear who appreciate absolute accuracy.

Decoupling & Connection Variety

Three height-adjustable, spring-loaded feet ensure optimal mechanical decoupling and a secure stand – even on sensitive surfaces.

On the rear panel, the TD 404 DD offers uncompromising connectivity: In addition to high-quality, gold-plated RCA outputs, balanced XLR connectors are available – perfect for ambitious high-end systems with fully balanced signal transmission. A removable dust cover is, of course, included.

Optionally, the external linear power supply TPN 124 can be integrated, which further exploits the sonic potential of the drive through a particularly clean and stable power supply.
