Anyone who likes R&B will inevitably encounter Erykah Badu. MAMA'S GUN was released in 2000. It was primarily recorded at Electric Lady Studios in New York and consists entirely of songs written by Badu. She was supported by the ever-changing collective The Soultarians, featuring multi-instrumentalist D'Angelo, drummer Questlove (who has been performing with his band Roots for The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon since 2014), and rapper and producer J Dilla.
The artists gave free rein to their creativity, and in the spirit of the great Electric Lady studio founder Jimi Hendrix, MAMA'S GUN was created as a warm, powerful album that stands for love, self-worth and social equality.
