Aurender A15 – Network player with dual-mono DAC and integrated streaming architecture

The Aurender A15 is an analog network player that combines streaming, D/A conversion, and preamplification in a single device. It is designed for systems seeking a compact, technically consistent solution without the need for separate transport and DAC components.

As an evolution of the A10, the A15 adopts its basic concept but expands upon it with a redesigned DAC section, improved power supply, and enhanced format support. The result is an integrated source for high-resolution music data from the network and local storage.

DAC architecture and signal processing

At its core is a dual-mono configuration with two AKM4490 DACs. Each channel is processed separately, which supports clean channel separation and stable spatial imaging.

The A15 processes PCM data up to 768 kHz / 32 bit as well as DSD up to DSD512. A full MQA decoder is integrated, so that corresponding content can be played back without external processing.

Clock generation is achieved via an FPGA-based system with very low jitter. The goal is precise timing control of the digital data streams before conversion.

Analog output and system integration

The A15 features balanced (XLR) and unbalanced (RCA) analog outputs. Volume control is lossless at the DAC level, allowing the device to be connected directly to a power amplifier.

This allows the A15 to replace a separate preamplifier in many setups, creating a reduced, short signal chain.

Digital inputs and expandability

In addition to streaming, the A15 offers several digital inputs for integrating external sources:

  • 2 × Coaxial (RCA)
  • 1 × Optical (Toslink)

These signals are processed via the internal DAC section, so the A15 can also be used as a central D/A converter for other digital devices.

Storage and usage concept

Two rear-mounted 2.5" drive bays allow for the installation of SSDs or HDDs. This enables the A15 to be used both as a streaming client and as a local music server.

The flexible storage architecture allows for adaptation to different library sizes or the complete elimination of internal drives.

Power supply and system design

The power supply is based on a fully linear architecture with multiple separate transformers for the CPU, DAC, and signal processing. This separation reduces potential interference within the system.

An integrated UPS system based on supercapacitors ensures operational reliability during power outages and enables a controlled shutdown.

Display and operation

The 6.9" IPS color display shows album art, track information, and system status. Control is via the Aurender Conductor app, a closed platform designed for stable playback and direct operation.
